József K. Tálas

József K. Tálas is the law firm’s Managing Partner. He is head of the life sciences and patent litigation team and directs technology transfer and investment-related commercial law work.

Professional Experience

József’s considerable experience covers litigation, advisory and licensing practice in all fields of intellectual property, including the enforcement of patents, designs, trademarks and copyright matters, as well as unfair competition and related fields, investment and tax issues. He also has significant experience in technology transfers, business negotiations involving Hungarian startups and investment companies, and licence agreement negotiations. As head of the law firm’s patent practice he has prepared numerous in-house agreements and regulations relating to innovation and inventors’ remuneration for Hungarian research centres. József is a leading and internationally respected professional in the enforcement of pharmaceutical and other patents.


Professional Memberships

József is a member of the Hungarian AIPPI Group and the AIPPI Standing Committee for Unitary Patent/Unified Patent Court, in addition to being a member and Vice-President of the European Patent Lawyers Association (EPLAW) and the Hungarian Association for the Protection of Industrial Property and Copyright. He is also a member of the group of expert judges and lawyers assisting the EU Commission in establishing a European and Community Patents Court.

József is a registered attorney at law at the Budapest Bar Association.

Before joining Sár & Partners Attorneys at Law in 1999 József worked for KPMG as a tax advisor and litigator, and spent a year as a trainee at the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation in Amsterdam.

He is the author of a number of publications, including the Hungarian chapter of Kluwer’s Global Patent Litigation, BNA’s International Patent Litigation and PLC’s Life Science Handbook 2009 and 2010.
